Balm addict and BBx contributing writer Natalie Peck talks us through her picks for keeping lips in tip-top condition, come rain or shine. But – let’s face it – probably rain.
I’m not ashamed to admit I have an entire drawer dedicated to lip balms. Not lip products, not lipsticks and glosses, just lip balms. And with good reason. It’s around this time of year that my previously sunburned and flaky lips become chapped (and still flaky!). In the summer months, I slather on an SPF-containing treatment as often as I can remember, but the winter calls for a good lip scrub and something more nourishing for my lips. Here are my faves:
- The usual go-to option is one of my many Balmi Lip Balms, I have the raspberry, coconut and mint versions on rotation in my handbag. There’s even one attached to my keys! The twist-off lid makes it really easy and hygienic to apply on the go and they taste delicious.
- My slowly growing collection of the cult favourite Maybelline Baby Lips is getting ridiculous – I love Peach Kiss for a subtle your-lips-but-better tint and Hydrate makes a great base for lipstick.
- I’ve been keeping the Korres Pomegranate Lip Butter Pot at my desk for liberal application throughout the day, it’s one of the creamiest lip products I’ve ever tried and adds an amazing pop of colour if you’re rushing out of the door in a hurry. Plus, it smells so good.
- For really dry days, I’ll reach for one of two lanolin-based options: Lanolips Lemonaid Lip Aid for an injection of moisture with a lovely fizzy lemon flavour or the Dr. Lipp Original Nipple Balm for Lips – an amazing multi-use balm created for new mothers with sore nipples from breastfeeding (hence the curious name).
That’s my lip balm arsenal – but I’d love to know your secrets. How will you be keeping your lips in shape this winter?
